DWMTM If they can do that they'll be golden, it's sort of like what apple does with it's products, but hopefully with tesla they offer more significant things from model to model.

I mean that would be ideal for Tesla. Getting to the point that people sell their car after one year to upgrade to the latest one. it would be a new thing for the car industry and it would be a huge accomplishment. I think it is within the realm of possibilities too if Tesla can keep up the innovation.

DWMTM Not surprised, it's also good to see that people were so quick to make the move.

DWMTM that is true, they do have to secure future profits in some way

Nadja well its not like your ttpical german saloon you turn over every 3 years because of maintenance costs. Tesla is gonig to have to work on making their cares more unreliable if they really want CPO to take off

DWMTM Seems like you might as well wait and be patient, just can't get into one as soon as you may want to.

Razor Well Tesla is working on it so you have to figure that they are going to be actively helping out the used market a bit. Who knows exactly how it will turn out at this point but its definitely something to keep an eye on.

If you can find one...

Challenges for the company’s entry into the CPO market include: budgeting for model refurbishing and sales; more legal battles to be allowed to directly sell used models; the potential for depreciation to be lower than benchmarked — the Mercedes S-Class’ trade-in value formed the basis for Tesla’s buyback program; owners taking their vehicles to other used-car dealers or the private market; and the upcoming Model III.

You could buy a used Model S instead

I just saw an article that talks about how Tesla is creating a used-car program to sell second hand Model S sedans. The sedan usually costs $71,000, but this program would reduce the price making it more affordable.

Model S customers are guaranteed to be able to turn in their vehicle after three years and get 43 to 50 percent of the original price tag back. That means Tesla will have plenty of used cars on its hands.

No word yet on exactly how much the used Model Ss will cost, but you can expect it to be less than $71,000 and more than $40,000.

Do you think you might be interested in a used Model S instead of the Model III?
