What would be sufficient is something in the 250-300 mile range. Which would put the duration of a single charge more in line with the distance out of an average tank of gasoline...
tesla has charger you can install in your home, those charging station are if you're on the go.

Nadja sure 100 miles is enough until its not... I think that is supremely arrogant to say all anyone needs is 100 miles why should you need more. sicne when did human behaviour become the lowest common denominator. What if I dont want to "fill up" every day? What if I dont want the added expense to my hydro bill every day?

Or does the consumer not matter any more?

DWMTM I think they should poll people on how many miles they do, no other better way to find out than to see what exactly people do.

Although 100 miles is more than what is reported that people need, I can see why car makers would want to go more that reason being to 1+ up the other and look better to consumers.

100-mile range sufficient for electric vehicles?

A recent study by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) says that people don't really need an electric vehicle that can go more than 100 miles in a single charge.

The study surveyed 36,000 drivers, their routes and driving patterns to figure out the optimal EV driving range and how to improve EV infrastructure. The study concludes that an 84-mile range should be enough for most people. That is the range of the Nissan Leaf.

The average commute takes less than 40 miles a day, which means that even after that you have plenty of space left to stop by the store or go out for dinner.

People just want more range because, for us humans, more is better.

What range do you think is sufficient for an electric vehicle?
