Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will be building new mass-market electric vehicle. That vehicle will compete with the likes of the BMW i3 and the future Tesla Model III.

This new EV is going to be designed from the ground up. Mercedes-Benz hasn't committed to electrifying an internal-combustion platform. The concept is being studied more before a final decision has been made.

We don't have a time-frame for this new EV model, but you would expect it to come out sometime in the next 2-3 years so that it can compete with the i3 and the Model III.

Finally some more competition.

I like BMW and have faith they will build a good product, but how good compared to what Tesla has and what they will have.....i'm not sure.

I'm sorry but how do the i3 and model III compete with one another? The model III is going to be 3 series sized, a typical family sedan, the i3 is a city run about with barely enough room for two people...
