As Tesla Evolves...

If you want to get something done perhaps you should follow the lead of two Model S owners and take out a full page advertisement in Elon's local paper?

What were the two looking for and how could it relate back to the Model III? The important ones:
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Cross Traffic Monitoring
  • Parking Sensors
  • Voice Activated Dialling
  • Mainstream Advertising
  • Cup Holder Location

Elon Tweeted a picture of the open letter with the caption "Many of the suggestions will be implemented soon" and they need to be.

Here's why, as of now Tesla has simply been a drop in the ocean of automotive sales, as a plaything for the nouveau riche in Palo Alto and around Sillicon Valley these short comings could be overlooked, but now with their initiative now focused on moving the company into the mainstream they need to be addressed.

The Model III for instance is expected to compete with the Mercedes C class and BMW 3 series for potential buyers, the problem is many of the features lacking on the Model S are all currently available on a lowly Ford Fusion.

Where I think this will become increasingly interesting is when Tesla begins to transfer from spunky upstart into faceless monolith. We know their ultimate goal is growth, however once you begin catering to a mass audience many of the bespoke and charming aspects of the company will be lost. Could a company the size of Ford actvely implement suggestions from 2 owners? Absolutely not, but its a size constraint, the major auto makers operational excellence is based on economies of scale and efficient production. Altering the cup holders somehow just doesn't fit.

Stay tuned. `
