Will Savings Be Passed to Consumers?

Not likely...

Quote:
Today’s Model S batteries are manufactured in Japan before taking the long boat ride to California so moving the production to the U.S. would immediately impact the bottom line. Musk plans to drive his energy expenses even lower with an expansive solar array and wind turbines on-site.
Indeed, this is integral to pushing into lower price brackets. I'm curious though if Tesla will be passing on savings to consumers or will simply reap the benefits of increased margins?

I definitely don't see that happening and why should it, people are already used to paying and seeing pricing as high as it is. Tesla might as well absorb the savings for themselves.

Because if they want to grow into a fully viable automaker and ditch their niche status they need volume.

They could do a bit of both. Make some more money and make their cars more accessible. Maybe not with the Model S, but with the Model X and the Model III.

they could indeed do that and i do see them going through with an idea like that.
basically they need to have a growing line up along the lines of some of the most successful car makes around currently, to an extent for now and the short-term future of course.
